What is the contest?

TELUS Spark is inviting staff, Members, guests and Calgarians to help name the giant scrap-metal Albertosaurus located in Brainasium Park.

One lucky dino-namer* will receive:

  • Four general admission passes to TELUS Spark
  • Four general admissions to Royal Tyrrell Museum, Drumheller, AB
  • A $150 Spark Gift Card to spend in the Spark Store or on premium experiences like T. REX in the Infinity Dome theatre, RO5iE and Birdly VR
  • A $250 CF SHOP card®
  • A feature on TELUS Spark’s social channels as the person or family who helped name Calgary’s newest legend

How can people enter?

Social Media: Voters can submit name ideas through TELUS Spark’s official social media channels (TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Linkedin) and its internal Workvivo social contest posts.

Website: Voters can submit name ideas through a QR code displayed inside TELUS Spark and by clicking on contest links provided from two Spark email newsletters.

On-Site Colouring Station: Young Spark Members and Guests can vote on site.

  3. Have a parent or guardian provide an email address
  4. Submit their entry at Guest Services

Who can participate?

Anyone can submit a name idea.

To be eligible for prizes:

  • Participants under 18 must provide a parent/guardian email address.
  • One vote/entry is counted per unique person, email address or social media account.
  • Additional sentiment votes can be cast by participating in reactions or comments on Spark’s official social media channels.

Can Spark reject a name even if it receives lots of votes?

Yes. TELUS Spark reserves the right to remove or decline any submission that:

  • Is inappropriate or offensive
  • Does not align with Spark values
  • Infringes on trademarks or copyrights
  • Is not suitable for long-term public use
  • Does not meet the contest criteria

How is the winner chosen?

The Spark Dino Naming Council will review submissions and select the winning dinosaur name. The Council is made up of Spark staff, and will consider:

  • Votes along with community enthusiasm and sentiment
  • Fun and appeal for kids and families
  • Calgary connection
  • Dinosaur/science relevance
  • Easy to say and remember
  • Long-term fit for TELUS Spark 

Do participants need to purchase admission?

No purchase is necessary to enter or win. Families can pick up a dinosaur colouring sheet at Guest Services, and return it with a parent or guardian’s email address to be entered into the contest, during the contest time period.

“Can I submit more than one name?”

Yes, but duplicate submissions may be consolidated during judging.

“Can my child enter?”

Yes. A parent or guardian email address is required for prize eligibility.

“When does voting close?”

August 17, 2026.

“When will the name be announced?”

Between August 25-27, 2026. If the selected winner declines the prize, cannot be reached or does not respond between August 18-24, TELUS Spark reserves the right to select an alternate winner.

“What happens to the colouring sheets?”

Colouring submissions stay inside a closed contest box displayed at the colouring station, and may be  displayed along the Creative Kids Museum hallway and featured on social media.
